Abbott Longford Marathon 2026

The Longford Marathon, run as the Abbott Longford Marathon, starts and finishes on Main Street near the Longford Arms Hotel in Longford town, the event's race headquarters. Known as the friendly marathon in the heart of Ireland, it follows a flat one-lap course through the scenic countryside of Longford and surrounding areas close to the River Shannon. After an opening lap through the town, the route heads out along a couple of miles of the N5 Strokestown Road before turning onto quiet rural roads that pass houses and farmyards, finally returning to Longford via the Battery Road. The largely level profile makes it a popular choice for runners chasing a time or preparing for the Dublin City Marathon in October, and it can also be run as a four-person relay. Organised by volunteers with proceeds to St Christopher's Services, the chip-timed event is praised for its organisation, scenery and welcoming community spirit.
