About this race
The Longford Ultra is the longest distance at the Abbott Longford Marathon, a 63.42km (39.3 mile) challenge starting and finishing on Main Street near the Longford Arms Hotel in Longford town, the race headquarters. Billed as the friendly marathon in the heart of Ireland, the event sends runners out on a flat course through the beautiful countryside of Longford and neighbouring areas near the River Shannon, on quiet rural roads passing houses and farmyards before returning to the town. The ultra extends the marathon route with an additional loop, making it a demanding test on a fast, largely level profile. Organised entirely by volunteers on a non-profit basis, with proceeds going to St Christopher's Services in Longford, the event is renowned for being one of Ireland's best-organised and most welcoming races. With drink stations along the way and strong community support, it offers a rewarding long-distance challenge in the midlands.
