Description
The Westport Marathon follows a scenic out-and-back paved route that starts and finishes at the vibrant Westport Quay (Roman Island), offering breathtaking views across Clew Bay. The course navigates a mix of smooth tarmac roads and the old Westport Railway Walk, passing through picturesque villages like Murrisk and Lecanvey with the iconic Croagh Patrick looming to the side. While much of the terrain is flat or slightly downhill, runners encounter an honest undulating profile with rolling coastal roads and a few steady drags that characterize the Wild Atlantic Way. Participants conclude their journey with a fast finish down the Towers slip road right beside the water.
