The Bere Island Midsummer Run 5k takes place on the scenic roads of Bere Island on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork, and is part of the Active Islands Run Series. The course follows the same route as the island's popular parkrun, based at Rerrin GAA pitch at the eastern end of the island. The route is anti-clockwise and begins with a climb before the course levels off to reveal sweeping views over the Atlantic Ocean and Lonehort Harbour. It passes a Bronze Age wedge tomb, a 19th-century military fort and an Irish Army training camp before descending back to the finish at the GAA pitch. The course is run entirely on tarmac roads and is hilly in character. The island is accessible by ferry from Castletownbere. The event is timed and held under an Athletics Ireland licence.
