Description
The Inis Iron Meáin 5k takes place on the roads of Inis Meáin, the middle island of the Aran Islands in County Galway. The race starts at Halla Naomh Eoin and follows the island's roads in a shorter version of the main route, taking in spectacular Atlantic coastal scenery and passing through the heart of the island. The course is well marked and features a steep incline for approximately 0.5km at the outset before levelling out. The terrain is tarmac road throughout and the route is undulating with varied terrain and panoramic views. The event raises funds for Coláiste Naomh Eoin, the island's secondary school. Participants receive a goody bag including a race number, timing chip, sports garment, t-shirt, energy drink and bar, and a ticket to the post-race barbecue buffet.
