The Cootehill 5k begins and ends at the Gate Lodge in Halton's Amenity Park, a scenic recreation area situated just outside the town center. The course follows a picturesque two-loop route along the east and west banks of the Dromore River, leading participants through lush broadleaf forest trails and past the enchanting Erica’s Fairy Forest. A signature feature of this run is the crossing of a footbridge that serves as the boundary between County Cavan and County Monaghan, making it a unique multi-county experience. The terrain consists of a functional mixture of tarmac, gravel, and woodland trail paths that remain firm underfoot.
